Turn The Page
In Genesis One where for us, it began,
God came up with a wonderful plan.
He hung the sun and the stars and the moon
And gave them a job that wouldn’t end soon.
He said they’d be for seasons and signs
To help men and women keep up with time.
He wound the clock once and set it in motion;
It runs without fail, even guarding the oceans.
While He exists outside of time
He knew we’d need some kind of line
To give us a path and keep us on track,
Until the end of the ages when He’s coming back.
Inside our souls, He placed a need
To see where we’ve been and remember our deeds.
He knew we’d want to write it all down;
We call it history, and it’s where we’re all found.
Our lives are written in small and large blocks
In seconds and minutes, all timed by our clocks.
The moments turn into days, then to years
And before we know it a life disappears.
Where are you now on the timeline of life?
Are you just beginning, with years still in sight?
Maybe you’re living in what’s called your prime,
With the notion that you’re still owed eons of time.
Or perhaps you find yourself towards the end;
You know that your best years are already spent.
The frailties of aging, the wisdom of years
Are pushing you rapidly toward what most men fear.
God’s clock is unstoppable, we can’t hold it still.
Every man must surrender to God’s sovereign will.
Our days are ordained; we can’t add or subtract;
Our “time” on God’s timeline is a foregone fact.
This year is complete; we flip over the page,
We look to the future and a new year engage.
We make resolutions and set out our goals
Not knowing if sorrow or joy it holds.
Still, there is peace as we look up at the sky
For we know who’s in charge of making time fly.
Our God holds the clock, and His plan is on pace,
Who knows, this year—we could see His face!
